World Yoga Day! Adah Sharma: I started doing yoga only for joy without wanting any gains from it

From silambam to nunchaku, Adah Sharma loves to try different forms of physical activities to keep herself fit. Out of the many activities she takes to, the actress swears by yoga the most. After all she has been doing it ever since she was three years old. While many people might take to yoga for mental peace and physical well-being, Adah mentions that she began to do out of sheer joy.

“Actually yoga came into my life when I didn’t know much about physical and mental stress. So it’s something I did only for joy without wanting any gains from it. In my opinion, the things I do without looking for ulterior gains always give me most peace. Playing the piano or flute are also a kind of yoga… meditation for me. An intense session of Suryanamaskars also makes my body feel very open and my mind, free,” she says talking about yoga on World Yoga Day today.

The Commando 2 actress says that she’s inspired by animals when it comes to yoga. And further talking about the various aasanas she performs and how she started off with it all, she adds, “I started doing yoga with my mother when I was 3 years old. She used to sit in Padmasana and chant Om. And then she did cool stuff like handstands, so I would try to copy her. For me, the most difficult aasana to perform has been Shavasana, because to have me be still in one place is very hard.”

Ask her about her favourite place to do yoga and the witty actress reacts saying, “I have done mallakhamb (which is yoga on a rope) suspended from a tree! Now, that’s quite an exotic place to do yoga, no? Also, I stand on one leg while in the shower sometimes, though I do not recommend or endorse this!”
